Qiao Wei believes that a scientific understanding of food and agriculture is of crucial importance to her country. The top achieving Lincoln University student has completed her theoretical papers for a Bachelor of Science (Food Science) and is proud to have gained A passes in courses such as Food Microbiology, Food Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Advanced Food Processing and Food Engineering.

The practical component of her course included working in a chicken processing factory, learning about hygiene requirements, and handling different forms of machinery such as the vacuum packing equipment.
To complete her degree, she will prepare a report on her practical work, analysing and describing food processing and management practices.
“The labs at Lincoln have really good facilities. Our lecturers are very helpful and I have wonderful classmates – Kiwis, Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, Indian. We all support each other and have very open communication.”
Once gaining her degree, Wei will work for a couple of years before applying to do an honours degree .
