The Uniqueness of AIS St Helens

Based in Auckland, New Zealand, AIS St Helens is a unique and distinctively international tertiary institution.

One of the oldest and largest private degree providers in the country, students and staff come from around the world to study and teach here. The diversity of people's backgrounds creates a community that is a global microcosm. Respect for diversity in languages and cultures is an integral feature of the education we deliver.

With over 1000 students from more than 30 countries, students gain opportunities to learn not only from books and lecturers, but also from their classmates. Many cross-cultural friendships and business ventures have developed on the AIS St Helens campuses.

AIS St Helens programmes are focused particularly on the global marketplace and many of our students find work offshore upon graduation.

Our dedicated teaching staff enjoy personal contact with students and class numbers are kept low to maintain quality standards. As a result our students receive individual attention and are often studying at a higher level than their peers who have chosen to study elsewhere.

We have three semesters per year commencing January/February, May and September. This system allows students to fast-track their courses. Dedicated students can complete a diploma or degree in a shorter time than at most traditional institutions, allowing them to enter the workforce more quickly. English Language programmes start on any Monday, except for the six-weekly test weeks.

Tailored options are available for students who want to combine courses from different programmes. For example, some students choose to do a Bachelor of International Business majoring in E-business but also study some courses from the Bachelor of Tourism Management programme, thus giving them a cutting edge in the international business world.

The flexibility, fast-track options and friendly, nurturing environment make AIS St Helens a popular place to study. In addition, a range of monitoring mechanisms are utilised to ensure that the quality of AIS St Helens courses is maintained at the highest international standards.

Many opportunities are provided to students and staff alike through our links with overseas organisations. We have affiliations and exchange programmes in place with education providers in Korea, China, Japan and Tonga.

Services and Facilities at AIS St Helens

AIS St Helens has two campuses - the Main Campus and Asquith Campus located just minutes from each other in Mt Albert.

Travel to and from AIS St Helens is easy and inexpensive. The campuses are close to Auckland's motorway, bus routes and railway. A shuttle bus for students runs between the Main Campus and Auckland City, which is close to major bus, rail and harbour ferry terminals.

The AIS St Helens dormitory and associated student houses, located on the Main Campus, provide up to 140 beds in either single or multishare bedrooms. Each room is fully furnished with its own study area. Meals are available from the cafeterias on each campus.

For students who prefer to live with a family, homestay is also available. All families are carefully selected by our homestay coordinator and provide an excellent environment for students wishing to practise their English.

Facilities on the Main Campus include a comprehensive library with a wide variety of books, journals, magazines, CD-ROMS, newspapers, audio and visual tapes, all supporting the courses of study. There are separate reading and study rooms as well as an Independent Learning Centre where students can use computers with CD-ROM and foreign language software. Email and internet facilities are available. A high-tech Language Laboratory and several computer labs are situated throughout the campus for the students to use.

For the sports-minded, AIS St Helens has a fully equipped gymnasium with boxing and aerobic circuits. Outdoor tennis courts and an indoor basketball court are on campus which is surrounded by the popular Chamberlain Park Golf Course. A wide variety of sporting, sightseeing and recreation activities are available to students, including sea-kayaking, skiing, horse riding and camping, to add an extra dimension to student life.

The campus cafeterias serve a wide range of food. Hot and cold meals, snacks and drinks are available throughout the day and there are vending machines for times when the cafeterias are closed.

Student support is an important feature of AIS St Helens. On campus we have full-time student services officers fluent in a variety of languages who provide students with ongoing assistance during their programmes of study.

The Placement and Support Services Officer assists students with preparation for job placement by advising on CV preparation, interview techniques and suitable placement for work experience. As part of the job-seeking process, the office will contact companies identified by the student or graduate and where appropriate, will arrange interviews.

AIS St Helens delivers quality programmes in a multi-cultural, nurturing and friendly environment. We allow students to progress at a pace according to their needs and prepare each individual with the skills and ability to work in a global environment.

Undertaking studies at AIS St Helens is a uniquely rewarding experience.
