Auckland

Auckland

Auckland is New Zealand’s largest city, with 1.3 million people.

Milford School is a decile 10 school (high socio-economic) and enjoys an extremely supportive community of parents and caregivers who are welcomed into our school to coach sports teams, assist in the classrooms, school trips and many are willing to share their expertise in a variety of ways.

We aim to inspire children to learn and achieve – to take responsibility for themselves and learn how to learn both academically and in their daily family and community life.

We have a fantastic hall where sporting, cultural and performing arts are actively encouraged. Our Year 5/6 students participate in waterwise on the lake for three terms each year. We have a 25 metre heated swimming pool which is used by classes to learn water safety and confidence for two terms a year. Students learn how to sail and kayak and general confidence around and in water with highly qualified instructors.

We provide many opportunities for able children to extend their thinking by offering comprehensive extension classes in a variety of curriculum areas. Children in Years 4 – 6 may choose to enter the International Competitions set by the University of New South Wales and our children regularly achieve creditably.

There are many opportunities for children to participate in a variety of sporting codes – Netball, Hockey, Soccer, Waterpolo, Touch Rugby, Rippa Rugby, Badminton, Basketball and Cross Country to name but a few. We also encourage children to participate in inter school competitions in aspects such as chess, speech competitions, and an opportunity is given to develop leadership skills in attending National Young Leaders Day, School Council, Bankers, Librarians, Mediators etc. Children also have the opportunity to be part of a massed choir or participate in talent quests and productions.

We have a dedicated IT suite containing 17 computers and a data projector and a well resourced library. Each classroom has at least three to four computers, digital cameras and data projectors.

Our ESOL department has a full time teacher with two Teacher Aides in support.

Our children wear our school uniform with pride. Success is celebrated through assemblies, newsletter reports and the website. Parents and caregivers receive regular communications via a weekly newsletter, web entries and syndicate newsletters. A comprehensive notice system is relayed daily through the intranet.

We foster a sense of community through special events and welcoming parents and community involvement in many school programmes.
