Edgewater College aims to be a college that makes a positive difference. There are currently students and staff from 52 national backgrounds working harmoniously together.

To ensure that this occurs we:

  • Provide opportunities to participate and perform in a wide range of sporting and cultural activities
  • Have qualified and dedicated staff
  • Provide courses of study designed to meet the individual needs and abilities of students

Location and Facilities

The school is located in Pakuranga, in eastern Auckland. Pakuranga is a residential suburb with excellent shopping, sporting and recreational facilities. There is easy access to the full range of tertiary institutions and to the central city. The school has:

  • Extensive grounds, tennis courts and sports fields
  • New and up-to-date science laboratories
  • Upgraded computer facilities
  • Well equipped music rooms and recording studios
  • A large gymnasium
  • A performing arts auditorium
  • A Maori meeting house

Extracurricular Programme

There is a wide range of sporting, musical and cultural activities available all year round. International students are encouraged to participate in at least one of these activities to help them to integrate into the NZ way of life.

Courses of Study

In the junior school (Years 9 and 10) emphasis is on providing a broad education which gives students the skills and knowledge required for further education.
In the senior school (Years 11 to 13) the emphasis is on:

  • Academic excellence
  • National qualifications
  • Preparing students for tertiary education and employment.

Student Welfare

To ensure that international students are carefully looked after, Edgewater College has a full-time Director of International Students who is responsible for their welfare. The Director liaises with a network of teachers, course supervisors, guidance and career counsellors, caregivers and the school nurse, to provide a quality support and guidance programme.

Accommodation

The homestay coordinator will arrange caring homestay accommodation with local New Zealand families. Weekly cost $230.

English Language Support

There is a very comprehensive English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) programme available where students are encouraged to prepare for university entrance examinations.

Junior and senior high school preparation courses are available at the beginning of each term to prepare second language students for entry into full mainstream classes.
