Whitireiaspecialises in training for employment. We are a government owned tertiary institute and offer over 130 degree, diploma and certificate programmes, including four levels of Englishand IELTS preparation. With small classes, typically 15 in English and 20 in other courses, Whitireia provides a high level of individual learning support for students. Whitireia also provides pathways with credit through certificate and diploma programmes to the final year of degrees in Information Technology, Business, Applied Arts and Teacher Education (Early Childhood Education).
Whitireia's main campus is 20km northof Wellington, the capital city of New Zealand, sited beside the scenic Porirua harbour. Other campuses are in central Auckland and central Wellington, both in the central city area and a few minutes walk from the harbours in each city. The Kapiti campus is set in a rural environment, one hour north of WellingtonCity.
While all courses and degrees are offered at the main campus in Porirua, selected courses are available at other campuses and depend on demand. For example, the Auckland city campus offers national business and computing certificates and diplomas that staircase directly, with credit, into Whitireia's bachelor degrees. Whitireia's business degree is avaliable at the Auckland campus giving diploma students 18 months credit to complete the degree.
We care for our students and an important part of that care is the high level of student and learning support that we provide. From learning difficulties to accommodation, visa or personal problems, we have counsellors and learning support staff to work with you to help you to resolve that problem and to get on with your life and study.
Internet and email access are free and automatically provided when you enrol at Whitireia. With over 1,100 screens and high-speed inter-campus networks, Whitireia is listed in the top 75 IT operations in New Zealand.
Our preference for students newly arriving in New Zealand is that they stay with a family in a "homestay". We will guarantee to provide this accommodation for every student and it has the advantages of providing an English-speaking environment, a family who will provide meals and the support that you would usually receive at home, plus the opportunity to make life-long friends. Another alternative at Porirua, Wellington and Auckland is hostel accommodation, normally with your own room and a choice of meals provided or to cook for yourself.
