Spring Blossoms Internationally in New Zealand
Wednesday, 24 September 2008
Winter in New Zealand is coming to an end, and all around the country people are celebrating the arrival of spring. In Palmerston North, international students participated in the Sakura (cherry blossom) Festival.
The Sakura Festival was hosted by the International Pacific College, and attracted over 6000 people. The festival is a tradition in Japan, and Japanese students performed traditional dances, and held tea ceremonies. There were also performances by students from Vietnam and Korea, as well as Maori students, making this a truly international festival.
Palmerston North Mayor Jono Naylor called the festival a "landmark event" for Palmerston North.
Institutions in Palmerston North include Massey University, International Pacific College, ETC Learning Centre, Palmerston North Boys High School and Freyberg High School.
