Auckland

Auckland is New Zealand’s largest city, with 1.3 million people.

The Elam School of Fine Arts offers a practice-based Doctor of Fine Arts. The School has instituted a studio-based Doctor of Fine Arts degree in the fields of studio practice. The degree involves a course of advanced study and research, the results of which are presented in a series of exhibitions, performances and presentations. The final exhibition must be an original contribution to the field of study and is required to meet internationally recognised standards. The preliminary qualification is a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Auckland, unless an alternative qualification is approved by the Senate. Each application needs to be approved by the Senate. After registration each student must pursue a course of advanced study and research for two calendar years full-time. After two years' full-time registration the student may apply for part-time registration. Persons interested in being admitted for either one of these programmes are advised to consult the Regulations in the University of Auckland Calendar, and to consult the Graduate Coordinator to discuss their research proposal.
