The Master of Commerce (MCom) degree is designed to prepare students for specialist positions in the public and private sectors. It contrasts with the MBA degree which is a post-experience programme aimed at preparing individuals for managerial positions.
The MCom degree is a two-year full-time course of study. The degree is offered in the following disciplines: Accounting and Finance, Economics, International Business, Management and Employment Relations, Management Science and Information Systems, and Marketing
Enrolment for the MCom degree is available to those who have graduated Bachelor of Commerce (or an approved equivalent) from the University of Auckland or from another recognised university. Students who have graduated from BCom(Hons) may enrol in a thesis only MCom course of study. Applicants seeking to enrol in the School's Master's course should have gained a 'B-' average or better in the subject they wish to pursue and have fulfilled the appropriate prerequisites. Applications may be considered from students who have not completed the BCom degree requirements but have passed 38 points for the degree, satisfied all the specified prerequisites, and achieved a 'B-' average or better in the Stage II and Stage III prerequisite papers. Students with a completed MBA who have passed 12 points above Stage I from the BCom Schedule including at least 6 points above Stage II in the intended subject and have achieved a 'B-' grade average or better in the Stage III papers will also be considered for entry to the course.
