Auckland is New Zealand’s largest city, with 1.3 million people.
This degree has been introduced for recent law and commerce graduates who wish to specialise in taxation and pursue a career as either a tax adviser in legal, or accountancy practice or tax specialists in commercial concerns. The teaching is based on seminars, with the students preparing and presenting in class written papers on researched topics. It is assumed that all students have previously passed an undergraduate course in taxation equivalent to the University of Auckland stage III Taxation paper 610.301, and are currently undertaking taxation work, either by itself or as part of general commercial work.
Applicants for the MTaxS course of study need to have completed one of the following (or an equivalent): BCom or BCom(Hons), LLB or LLB(Hons).
In addition, students need to have completed the necessary prerequisites or approved alternative papers.
The MTaxS degree consists of 21 points and can be completed in the equivalent of three semesters full-time. The course can be studied on a full-time or part-time basis.
