Young Leaders focus on Asia-New Zealand cooperation

Friday, 14 November 2008

The Asia New Zealand Foundation Young Leaders Forum brings together outstanding young people, aged 20 to 34, from New Zealand and Asia for a week-long programme beginning on November 16. Selected through a competitive application process, the 37 participants have each demonstrated leadership potential and a commitment to furthering New Zealand-Asia relations.

(via Scoop) Among the New Zealand participants are current and past recipients of the Foundation’s scholarships and awards while other New Zealand participants have substantial, ongoing connections with Asia.

Participants from Asia are current and recent holders of New Zealand government or university scholarships.

Participants are from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines - medicine, business, science, education and the arts. They include undergraduate and post-graduate students as well as recent graduates and young leaders already working.

This year’s Forum programme includes a real-life Leadership Challenge. In groups, young leaders will race against time and each other to set up and execute a fund-raising event on Thursday, November 20, in Wellington. Teams will compete to see who can raise the most money for a UNICEF project in Lao.

Other highlights of the programme include visits to Asian embassies and high commissions in Wellington, seminars on New Zealand-Asia relations (social, economic and government issues) and workshops on Leadership learning, effective presentations and networking.
