Specialist Agent training process

Invitation:

When a Specialist Agent training course is scheduled in a country, the agents in that country known to Education New Zealand and government agencies such as NZTE will receive an invitation to register, by a specified date, for a one day certification course. Details about the timing and venue for the course will be provided, plus a website link to an on-line course registration page.

Registration:

Agents who wish to take up the invitation must register by the specified date, on-line, following the link provided in the invitation.

Registrants must provide their own full contact details and at least 3 (and preferably 5) New Zealand education industry referees (name of referee, institution, email address).

Pre-course information:

All registrants are encouraged to take time to read the New Zealand Information for Agents. This forms the basis of the Specialist Agent training course. There is a lot of information for course participants to take in on the day, so becoming familiar with the information prior to attending the course can certainly prove advantageous to participants – improving knowledge retention and ability to pass the assessment at the conclusion of the course.

On the day:

The Specialist Agent training course is a full day programme. A series of presentations (mostly delivered in English) and interactive discussions are used to cover the course contents. Presentations are punctuated by morning tea and lunch, concluding mid-afternoon.

A one hour multiple choice course assessment follows afternoon tea, concluding with refreshments, and a chance to network.

On completion of the multiple choice assessment, participants are required to sign a declaration of adherence to a Specialist New Zealand Education Agent code of conduct. This is attached to the multiple choice questionnaire.

All participants receive a quality course content booklet for use as a reference resource and as a client presentation tool.

Assessment:

Multiple choice questionnaires and references are assessed by Education New Zealand or their nominated assessor.

To become a Specialist Agent participants must:

  1. Answer at least 75% of answers correctly
  2. Have at least 3 satisfactory reference checks
  3. Pay an administration fee (NZ$200). This will only be invoiced after conditions 1 and 2 above have been met.
  4. Upon receipt of payment for the administration fee, an official Specialist Agent Pass Certificate will be mailed to successful agents. Successful agents will also recieve their website login details to the Marketing Resources page

Specialist Agent status:

Specialist Agent status commences when the course participant is mailed a Pass Certificate. Pass Certificates will feature the name of the actual person who completed the course and the name of the Agency they work for at time of course completion.

Specialist Agent status is normally valid for one year, or until such time that a refresher course is run for Specialist agents.
